Terms of service

This page describes how the service works today. The final legal text will replace it before launch.

The service

RenderChart turns the parameters in a URL into a chart image. You can build charts in the app, use their URLs anywhere an image works, and manage them through the REST API and the MCP server.

Your account

Most features need a verified email address. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your password safe; two-factor authentication is available in your security settings.

Keys and signed URLs

Each key has a public part, which appears in chart URLs, and a secret part, which signs them. Keep secret keys out of web pages, apps and public repositories. Revealing a secret in the app asks for your password.

Rotating a key issues a new pair, and the old one keeps working for 24 hours before it stops. Revoking a key stops its charts within about a minute.

Plans and billing

The free plan includes watermarked charts up to a monthly render allowance. Once it is used, new charts show a limit image until the allowance resets on the 1st of the month (UTC). Charts already rendered keep showing.

Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or annually, in US dollars through Stripe. Each paid plan includes a monthly render allowance, monthly on either interval.

Renders past the allowance are extra renders. Signed charts and short URLs keep rendering as extra renders; unsigned charts do so only from keys you have set to allow it, and otherwise stop until the allowance renews. Extra renders are charged per render at your plan's published rate, added up over each monthly period and billed in arrears through Stripe to your payment method on file when the period ends. If you upgrade during a period, the new plan's allowance applies to the whole period.

You can set a monthly cap on extra renders, or turn them off, from the billing page, and give any key its own monthly render limit. With extra renders off, once the cap is reached, or once a key reaches its limit, new charts show a limit image until the allowance renews; charts already rendered keep showing. We email you as you approach and reach your allowance, and may suggest a larger plan. Current prices, allowances and extra render rates are on the pricing page.

You can cancel at any time from the billing page. Your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for, then the account moves to the free plan.

Fair use

Do not use the service to break the law, to publish content you have no right to publish, or to overload it. Every key has a per-minute render limit, and charts over it show a “Too many renders” image for a moment.

Closing your account

You can delete your account from your profile settings. Your keys stop working within a minute and your cached charts are removed. A paid plan is cancelled at once, without running to the end of the period. The privacy page says what is kept.
